Recommended that students undertake Foundations for Religious Education as the first unit in the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education.

Unit description

Builds teacher capacity to successfully embrace the challenges and complexities of designing effective curriculum and pedagogies, ensuring confidence, agile problem solving, and resilience in religious education. This unit will explore religious beliefs and understandings of significant religious texts with a focus on Catholic education.

What are sacred religious texts?
Historical and critical methods for interpreting sacred religious texts
Applying critical religious approaches in curriculum design
Use of the sacred religious texts in the religious education curriculum and teaching
Using Biblical stories in teaching religious education
Effective curriculum design for teacher confidence and resilience in religious education.

Learning outcomes

design, justify and communicate curriculum plans and pedagogical strategies that integrate theological and religious frameworks to address diverse educational needs.

apply critical and creative approaches to the use of religious texts in teaching, demonstrating confidence, problem-solving skills, and adaptability in teamwork within religious education settings.
