Arlo Robinson testimonial - Southern Cross University

Arlo Robinson’s IT career is on track after joining Australia’s largest rail freight operator – Aurizon – which transports more than 250 million tonnes of commodities each year.

Based in Brisbane, Arlo joined Aurizon in February 2023 after graduating with a Bachelor of Information Technology (Big Data) at Southern Cross University. He is revelling in opportunities around data engineering, data reporting and analytics, and data science.

After a successful career in banking and finance, Arlo was keen to explore new opportunities. He came to Southern Cross University in 2020.

“The degree really refined my areas of interest. I saw how it could offer a fantastic way to pivot and be flexible, and to be confident in making those kinds of decisions.”

An important part of Arlo’s experience was mentoring and he encourages students to take advantage of this service.

“I participated in the Bright Futures Mentoring Program and the UniMentor Program. It was such great support, from basic study tips and where to find resources, to engaging with staff for guidance along the way.”
