Unit description

This unit develops an understanding of factors affecting labour supply and demand in a local and global context. More specifically, the factors affecting the current labour markets' conditions such as globalisation, an aging population, skill shortages and the changing nature of work are discussed.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate understanding of the evolution of management and the changing world of management
2identify the individual, organisational and societal factors shaping the national, international and global environments in which businesses operate
3recognise the organising framework for ethical behaviour in business including social responsibility, sustainability and corporate governance
4discuss the innovative management competencies needed to deal with today’s turbulent business environment, including issues of globalisation, diversity and rapid change.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate understanding of the evolution of management and the changing world of management
  2. identify the individual, organisational and societal factors shaping the national, international and global environments in which businesses operate
  3. recognise the organising framework for ethical behaviour in business including social responsibility, sustainability and corporate governance
