Unit Snapshot

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

construct a solution using a systems approach for the design of concrete structures to analyse a given problem related to the civil engineering context

apply practical engineering methods, techniques, tools and resources to formulate solutions to a well-defined problem related to concrete structures

manage and communicate the outcomes from a well-defined project related to concrete structures

self-evaluate use of professional skills and judgement in contributing to the successful completion of a well-defined project related to concrete structures

critically evaluate design loads using structural analysis based on strength and serviceability limit states, analyse the properties of concrete and steel bars, and design a concrete mix proportion of a certain grade

perform calculations necessary for the design of reinforced concrete beams, slabs, columns and footings following Australian Standards.
