Unit description

This unit prepares students to co-design, implement, and evaluate group interventions and community programs that enable occupational participation, promote justice and inclusion, and integrate culturally responsive and evidence-informed approaches. Students will apply principles of community development, health promotion, collaboration, education, and advocacy to support community-based service delivery. Using hypothetical client scenarios, students will learn to design and deliver group-based occupational therapy programs for diverse populations which will enable them to lead initiatives in community and group practice in contemporary societies.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

critically analyse contextual factors influencing occupational participation in communities and groups from an occupational justice perspective

co-design and justify community-based and group occupational therapy programs in partnership with service recipients and stakeholders, integrating evidence-informed and culturally responsive approaches

develop and evaluate group interventions and community programs that promote occupational participation and inclusion, demonstrating principles of advocacy and sustainability

integrate professional reasoning and leadership skills to address barriers and lead initiatives in community and group practice within contemporary occupational therapy contexts
