While recent academic performance or professional experience is used as an indicator of ability to undertake studies at a tertiary level, applicants will also be invited to an interview as part of the final application process.

Major areas of study

Studies include key operational subjects such as food and beverage, accommodation operations, and introduction to professional practice, together with introductory management subjects including finance, marketing and hospitality management. Notice Tuition fees are in Australian dollars, and are subject to change. Annual tuition fee is based on completing 8 units per year. In addition students are required to pay OSHC for the duration of their visa in advance. Non-tuition fee covers textbooks, stationery and excursions.

Learning Resources

MySCU is a student's point of entry to a range of online services and resources that support study and student life. The portal includes unit learning sites and information sites where students can access resources, communication tools and useful links that are integral to their studies.

The web-based study environment Blackboard Learn delivers an advanced online learning environment for students and lecturers to communicate and collaborate through virtual meeting spaces, classrooms, and discussion boards. They can share files, presentations and applications. If a tutorial or lecture is recorded, students can view it afterwards.

Learning materials include the provision of unit information guides, study guides and readings. Students may need to purchase or access prescribed text books.

The SCU library provides a wide range of services including librarian assistance, print and electronic resources, a document delivery service, catalogues, databases, ebooks, ereadings, and full-text journal literature. Students of The Hotel Schools have electronic access to the SCU library and are entitled to reciprocal borrowing rights with most Melbourne and Sydney universities. The SCU library has an extensive tourism and hospitality collection, print and electronic resources to support students in their study and assessment tasks.

The Academic Skills team supports student learning by offering online and on-campus academic skills workshops, email, phone, and one-on-one support.

Equipment and facilities

The Hotel Schools provides students with well-equipped teaching spaces. Modern audiovisual equipment is standard in all teaching venues, and students have access to computer labs for individual study purposes, as well as wireless internet, printing and photocopying.

Course requirements

To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete not less than twenty-four (24) units (288 credit points) comprising:
1. all units listed in Part A; and
2. three (3) units from Part B; or
3. three (3) other units acceptable to the Course Coordinator.
To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete no less than sixteen (16) units (192 credit points) from Part A.
To be eligible for the award of the Diploma of Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete no less than eight (8) units (96 credit points) from Part A.
A candidate in the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management who has completed the requirements for the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management may elect to be awarded the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management following withdrawal from the candidature for the Bachelor Degree.
A candidate in the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management who has completed the requirements for the Diploma of Hotel Management may elect to be awarded the Diploma of Hotel Management following withdrawal from the candidature for the Bachelor Degree.
