Aligned with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) – offering targeted support to people with disability and their carers – this program responds to the increasing demand for professionals with specialist knowledge in disability services. An elective professional portfolio unit allows you to develop your ideas for service delivery in a project format.

The course is also designed to reflect the principles of the NDIS by focusing on customised services geared to individual need.

Contemporary issues in person-centred service provision, policy, and advocacy. Core units cover organisational change, supporting decision-making, positive behaviour change and supporting the social and economic participation of people with disability. Electives include units on autism spectrum disorder, advocacy, mental health and the option to complete a professional portfolio.

Units generally employ a variety of assessment methods to ensure your knowledge is solidified at the conclusion of the teaching period. Dependent on the unit, methods may include reports, case studies or verbal presentations, among others.

Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.

Career opportunities exist in disability services as support workers or service providers under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS); or in policy and advocacy roles.
