The two-year International Hotel and Tourism Management Program is a unique combination of a paid internship and a rigorous academic program.
The program prepares students for a career in the hotel and tourism management sector by blending an education build on theoretical as well as practical foundations, giving students the experience and exposure to thrive in the modern hospitality and hotel management landscape.
This course is delivered at all three of the University’ Hotel School campuses in partnership with HTMi, Hotel and Tourism Management Institute Switzerland, a world leading hospitality and tourism education provider. It includes 880 hours of paid internship with the AccorHotels group.
This program comprises a series of academic units blended with a paid internship. The academic units include tourism and hotel studies, theory and practice of food, beverage and wine service and management, cost control, finance, technology, hotel operations and organisational practice.
Students are assessed in each unit on the basis of written and/or oral assignments. These may include researched essays, reports, presentations, case studies, portfolios, online discussions, tests and exams, as well as more interactive assessments such as blogs, wikis, online discussion boards and multi-media presentations. Students may also be asked to participate in group work as well as individual assignments. The weighting of assessment marks between assignments and examinations varies.
Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, online discussion forums, work experience, field trips, guest speakers and industry engagement. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Work Integrated Learning and Industry Engagement are critical aspects of this course. Student learn through ongoing activities that connect them with industry practitioners. The program includes a 440-hour paid internship each year with the AccorHotels group.
Graduates will be well prepared for professional roles in the hotel sector, including as a food and beverage manager, meeting planner, venue coordinator, facility manager, restaurant manager, concierge, rooms division and front office, banquet and events manager, housekeeping supervisor, catering manager, front office supervisor, bar manager and guest services manager.
Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible for entry and credit into the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.
This course includes a compulsory paid internship of 440 hours per year for a total of 880 hours. Students will have the opportunity to complete their internship at an AccorHotels property within Australia, getting practical experience with general systems of operation, and the philosophies and aims of the hotel.
Potential income from internships
Students may anticipate potential pre-tax income of approximately $11,000 per year for the two-year duration of the course, based on an average hourly rate of $25.28 and a minimum of 440 hours per internship per year.

The hourly rate for paid internships (in a housekeeping or food and beverage role) will start at the base casual hourly rate of $25.28/hour. This is based on the Hospitality Industry General Award pay rate effective 2/7/18. Award rates are reviewed each year in the line with revision of the applicable Federal award. Potential earnings are indicative only and should only be used as a guide.
The internship may be undertaken in any location around Australia. Some internship opportunities may be with hotel groups other than AccorHotels.
Remuneration is dependent on the relevant award rate; students may elect to work in an unpaid role.
