Scheduling units

Navigate to the plan and enrol page via the plan and enrol button at the top of my study page. It is important to understand how your units are displayed. Units may appear as scheduled, unscheduled, or a mix of both. Units listed on the left-hand side column have not yet been scheduled into relevant terms. These will need to be scheduled before you can enrol. Units shown in the term columns have been prescheduled for you.

Check your course progression to confirm their line correctly. Scheduling units into the relevant term columns can be completed in a few ways. Before you start, ensure you have your course progression or personalised study plan, if provided by client services, ready to refer to.

Option one, schedule button.

Next to the relevant unit in the unscheduled column, click the schedule button. Choose the correct year, study period, location, and attendance mode. Once you've added the required details, click okay to save your changes. Your unit has now been scheduled. You will see the unit you have scheduled sitting in the relevant term column.

Option two, plan a study period.

Click the "Plan a Study Period" wizard located at the top of the Plan and Enrol screen. Enter the year and study period for each unit that is not yet scheduled. Click next. Units that are available in the term you have selected will be displayed. Tick the check box on the units you want to schedule for that term. Click finish.

Continue repeating these steps until you have no units left in the unscheduled column.

Option three: add and remove buttons.

At the bottom of each term column, click add to add units to that term. You can then select the unit you want to add from the unscheduled column. Once   selected, click Add to study plan. To remove
units, click the remove button, then select the unit you want to remove, then select the yellow remove button. Adding and removing is restricted to the unscheduled column. This means you can only add units that are currently in the 'unscheduled' column, and any units you remove will be sent back to the 'unscheduled' column.

Once a unit is scheduled, you can move it to another term column using the move button. Click on move next to the unit you want to move. Choose the correct year, study period, location, and attendance mode. Click okay. You will
see your unit move to the new term column.

Unit Levels

At Southern Cross University (SCU), unit codes are structured to reflect the level of learning, which aligns with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Here’s how the unit codes typically match the level of study (SCU unit codes usually look like this: ABCD1001)

  • ABCD – Subject area or discipline (e.g., EDUC for Education, LAWS for Law)
  • 1st Digit – Level of study (Units coded with 1 should be completed prior to units coded with 2, and so on in sequential order.)
  • Remaining Digits – Used to uniquely identify the unit

Learning Levels by Unit Code

First Digit Level Description
1 Introductory (1st year UG) Foundation units for new undergrads; broad introduction to the subject.
2 Intermediate (2nd year UG) Foundation units for new undergrads; broad introduction to the subject.
3 Advanced (3rd year UG) Focused and specialised study, often includes research or project work.
4+ Postgraduate / Honours Designed for graduate diplomas, masters, or honours-level research and study.
6–9 Higher Postgraduate (e.g., PhD or research units) Advanced research or doctoral-level units.
