The Southern Cross Model
Six-week terms
Terms are six-weeks long with a break between each one. You’ll typically study across four Terms a year - it’s up to you!
Increased success
Between 2019-2022, the average GPA of students in the Southern Cross Model increased by 11% and unit completion rates increased by 16%.
Immersive learning
Focus on just one or two units each Term for an immersive study experience. Learn more, quickly, in workshops and tutorials.
You’re in control

3. Accept and enrol
Accept your offer, enrol in the course’s units. Congratulations, you’re now an SCU student!
Am I a domestic or international student?
You are a domestic student if you are: an Australian or New Zealand citizen; an Australian permanent visa holder (including permanent humanitarian visa holders). Whether you live within or outside Australia, if you do not meet the above you are an international student. Depending on the course offered, international students may study offshore, online or in Australia on a student visa or other temporary Australian visas.

A: Non-school leavers who have relevant work experience may gain admission to an SCU course through various alternative pathways to university.

To help you get the most out of our services and collections, we will:
- Provide you with access to the information and resources you need.
- Provide you with expert advice via chat, phone and email.
- Provide you with access to borrow our physical collections on campus. If you are unable to visit our campuses, we will send physical collection items to your home address with free return postage.
- Send you email and SMS notifications when items are available for collection and reminders to return Library items on time.
To make the most of your Library experience, we ask that you:
- Return your loans on time.
- Take care of the items you borrow from the Library.
- Check your University email account and respond to any notices from the Library.
- Engage and communicate with our staff in a respectful and appropriate manner.
HECS-HELP is a loan program where eligible Commonwealth supported students receive a financial subsidy from the Australian Government.
For eligible students, the Australian Government contributes an amount to the cost of study in the form of a loan.
The loan is repaid when income reaches the compulsory repayment threshold. For more information, see the see the Australian Government's Study Assist website.
Austudy and Abstudy are forms of financial assistance for full-time students from the Australian Government. You will need to contact Centrelink to determine your eligibility.
