Birthing on Country Scholarship

Value: $10,000

The Faculty of Health aims to support two enthusiastic Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Bachelor of Midwifery graduates for an honours program exploring Birthing on Country (BoC) or midwifery education and confidence in providing smoking cessation information for Indigenous women in rural/remote settings.

The degree will align with the Birthing on Country/iSISTAQUIT grant received from the Department of Health and Aged Care. The positions will be based in either of Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast or Coffs Harbour campuses.

The Birthing on Country Placement Bursary is an opportunity for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Midwifery students at Southern Cross University to be involved in the Birthing on Country project sponsored by iSISTAQUIT. Students will receive a competitive bursary of $2500 per annum to attend a placement in an Aboriginal Health Service and to experience community-based healthcare.

Value: $50,000

The Vice-Chancellors Regional Leadership Scholarships celebrates excellence in our local area. The scholarship will support commencing students in any undergraduate program on-campus at Coffs Harbour, Lismore, the Gold Coast, Coomera, National Marine Science Centre or Online.

Students do not have to apply for these scholarships as they will be awarded to school leavers from our local region achieving an outstanding ATAR who enrol in any undergraduate degree.

The scholarship supports students through an initial Diploma program where the student gains skills required for successful degree studies.
