Biography

Maggie Scorey is currently practice education lead in the Occupational Therapy program at Southern Cross University. Prior to this appointment, she worked clinically in private practice hand therapy and public hospitals in neurosciences. She completed her Masters by Thesis in 2021 and Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2013. Maggie was chair of the Australia, New Zealand Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Academics in 2014 and is co-chair of University Occupational Therapy Practice Education Network 2014-2015, 2021-2022.

Research

Maggie completed her Masters by research investigating the facilitators and barriers for professional surfers returning to surfing after an acute physical injury. She received runner up for best presentation at the SCU HDR symposium in 2017.

Community Engagement

Maggie's role as practice education lead requires much community engagement and she has been successful in sourcing and supporting practice education in all years of the Occupational Therapy program. She has been Unit Assessor for the Health Promotion and Primary Health Care unit from its inception in 2012 which engages fourth year students to complete a project identified by local and international (Vietnam and Cambodia) organisations. She received the Engaged Learning Award in 2016 at the SCU excellence in engagement awards at SCU.

Teaching

Maggie currently teaches fourth year practice education units of study - Advanced Fieldwork and Health Promotion and Primary Health Care.
