Biography
BBus (with Dist.) Hons I, University Medal (SCU) PhD (UNE)
Jennifer has over 20 years higher education experience and has held several leadership positions including Department Head for Accounting, Finance and Quantitative Methods and School Director of Higher Degrees Research Training. She has also coordinated MBA, MPA and Honours courses as well as overseeing the School's SCU Online offerings. Prior to entering academia, she held accounting positions in the advertising industry.
Research
With research publications in accounting, finance, strategy, management, entrepreneurship and marketing, Jennifer has a multidisciplinary understanding of business and business research. She has been involved in a wide range of consulting and research projects across a variety of industries including financial services, agriculture, software development and sport and fitness and for organisations such as Microsoft, Chandler McLeod Group and Gold Coast City Council. Her current research interests are focused on financial literacy, financial well-being, financial advisor anxiety and, in the context of accounting and finance education, maths anxiety.
Community engagement
Jennifer has been involved in not-for-profit governance as a voluntary board member. She is currently SCU's academic representative member in the UniSuper Consultative Committee.
Supervision
Jennifer has supervised 5 PhD, 6 DBA and 3 PhD qualifier students to completion, including the winner of the 2015 Meredith Prize for the DBA graduate with the most outstanding thesis.
Teaching
Jennifer has taught subjects such as business finance, research and quantitative methods, introductory accounting and managerial economics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She was recognised as a 2021 Southern Cross University Inspiring Educator.
