Dr Justine Poplin is an academic, researcher, and educator specialising in Visual Culture and Education. With extensive cross-cultural experience in Australia and China, she has taught and designed curriculum across secondary and tertiary contexts, bringing together studio practice, critical theory and digital media literacies. Her research and creative practice examine symbolism and the shifting interplay between online and offline visual cultures in the digital age, with particular attention to how people engage with images, memes and networked platforms.
Her most recent book, Myth, Memes, and Meaning in 21st Century Chinese Visual Culture (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024), investigates contemporary myth-making and digital symbolism within Chinese visual culture, offering insights that inform both scholarly debate and teaching & learning practice.
