Craig Deed

Biography

Professor Craig Deed is the Associate Dean, Strategic Partnerships in the Faculty of Education. Craig relocated to SCU, Gold Coast Campus, from the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University, Victoria. While at La Trobe, he held several leadership roles within the Faculty of Education, including Deputy Dean and Associate Dean Academic, as well as Associate Dean Teaching & Learning. Craig’s teaching background includes the capstone subjects of research methods in education, and Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA).

Research

Craig’s research is focused on the interaction between contemporary pedagogy and the built environment. Specifically, what will future schools look like, taking in to account advances in AI in Education, as well as the continued evolution of teaching practices, student engagement and learning experiences, and socio-cultural and economic change. Craig has previously been a lead investigator on three ARC Linkage projects, and has published an extensive number of journal articles, books, and book chapters. Craig has supervised many HDR students to completion and has expertise in qualitative research methodology. Craig has also worked as an education consultant and planner on spatial-pedagogical visioning; design reviews and post-occupancy reviews for School Infrastructure NSW; the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and for leading educational architects on school projects in Australia and internationally.

Other

Moving from the arid landscape of central Victoria to the Gold Coast, there have been five noticeable changes for Craig – the morning exercise culture, the many shades of blue (sky and sea), strange bird calls at sunrise, mild winter, and verdant vegetation!
