Biography
Dr. Clement Nhunzvi is a Senior lecturer at Southern Cross University, Australia, specialising in health and social sciences with a focus on occupational science, occupational therapy and mental health. He obtained his PhD from the University of Cape Town, exploring an occupational perspective of social inclusion among young adults dually afflicted with substance use disorders and HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe. Dr. Nhunzvi is an African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI I), Zimbabwe PhD fellow alumnus. His research emphasises critical social science, indigenous knowledges, and decolonial approaches, particularly among marginalised groups.
Dr. Nhunzvi has made significant contributions to the field of occupational therapy through his work on community health, social inclusion and justice in mental health and HIV. He has conducted evidence synthesis studies and developed community engagement approaches in under-resourced settings. His research interests align with critical and naturalistic methods to explore social determinants of health. He has a growing publication record in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. Dr Nhunzvi is currently serving as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Occupational Science.
As an educator, Dr. Nhunzvi has supported and supervised numerous students, including over thirty undergraduates and three master's students at the University of Zimbabwe. He is currently co-supervising his first doctoral student with the University of Cape Town.

In his role at Southern Cross University, he has excelled in integrating his research and teaching as a foundation for problem solving and social transformation. Dr. Nhunzvi prioritises developing critical consciousness among learners, enabling them to appreciate and visualise the diverse contexts and complexities in which social and health challenges emerge.
Community engagement
Dr. Nhunzvi's work extends beyond academia, engaging with community and public sectors. He has engaged with community and public sectors, particularly with school-going youths in Zimbabwe, to challenge stigma and social exclusion related to HIV and substance use. His efforts have been supported by a Wellcome Trust Community and Public Engagement seed fund grant, showcasing his dedication to societal benefit and the application of research for public good.
